After reading the article on how to prepare for your outdoor kitchen project , you are ready to move forward and carry out your project. The following article will present the main steps you will go through. This will help you plan this construction in your daily life.
Meet an expert:
- From the beginning of your meeting, the expert will invite you to choose one or more barbecues. It is important to determine the models you want to have to build the outdoor kitchen around these elements. To advise you, the expert will ask you several questions such as:
- How often do you use your barbecue?
- How many people do you want to cook for?
- What type of cooking do you prefer?
- What is your budget?
- Do you want your barbecues built-in or not?
- After you have chosen your barbecues, you will enter the process of designing your outdoor kitchen. If you have done your research and assessed your needs, this part should go quickly. You will answer questions such as:
- What does your space look like?
- Do you have any pictures?
- Do you have any precise measurements?
- What options do you want? (Electricity, water, refrigerator, prep space, sink, etc.)
For the last point, the chosen options, take the time to go around the question and let yourself be inspired by the expert. To help you, Max Lavoie, BBQ Guru and co-founder of BBQ Québec presents here a TOP 5 of the "Must haves" of your outdoor kitchen .
** Please note that if you do not have the plan in mind or if you have not made your final decision on the location and shape of the outdoor kitchen, you can continue the process and the team of experts will build the plan for you.
- Although related to the design, the type of structure chosen will come after the choice of options since it will impact the choice of structure. So, you now know which barbecues you will put in your kitchen, what equipment will be present, how the kitchen will be positioned, we are at the stage of choosing the structure.
You will have to choose between a custom-built structure or prefabricated modules. In terms of custom-built structures, you will have to choose between the following materials:
- Aluminum
- Galvanized steel
- Stainless steel
- Wood not recommended unless structural wood (therefore laminated) and provide regulatory clearance to avoid fire.
- Concrete
- Natural stone (beautiful, but much more expensive)
Obviously, the choice of going with a custom structure versus prefabricated modules will greatly impact the price of the final bid.
- We are now at the choice of coating for the outdoor kitchen. You will have to choose between the following coatings:
- Rock
- Drink
- Concrete
- Stainless steel
Don't hesitate to go for your favorite in your initial request. This part of the project will be very visible so you have to make sure that you will like it in 5-10-15 years.
- Finally, you will need to choose which countertop you want to put on your outdoor kitchen. Here are the choices you will have:
- Metal (Stainless Steel)
- Stone (bricks, stone, granite, dekton)
- Wood (IPE, cedar, pine)
- Concrete
- That's it, you've gone through all the steps of the process in order to properly target your needs and desires regarding your outdoor kitchen project. The expert will have everything in hand to either create your outdoor kitchen plan or provide you with a complete quote for the project.
Don't hesitate to mention your concerns or your desire to change the initial plan. Know that even if the quote is created, you always have the opportunity to change aspects. It is completely normal to want to make changes, whether to reduce costs or, on the contrary, to be tempted by features that were presented to you during your meeting with the expert.
Following receipt of your quote, a member of the BBQ Québec team will contact you after a few days to make changes to the plan if necessary or simply to answer your questions. The meeting with the expert is loaded with information and it is not uncommon for customers to have questions again after they return home.
Steps after purchase
Once you have finalized the transaction with the team of experts, we thought it was important to give you an overview of the steps that lead to the completion of the complete construction of your outdoor kitchen.
- Administrative management
Once you have finalized the transaction, it is important to know that there may be a delay of 1 to 2 weeks while the team of experts follows up on the paperwork with all stakeholders in the file.
- Ordering
This step will be more or less long depending on your choice of structure and coating. You can expect around 3 weeks to receive the products if you have chosen modular structures such as the Napoleon brand. If you have opted for custom structures and coatings, you will need to plan for a production time of 5 to 8 weeks.
- Reception
The expert team will receive the products and notify you. They will plan with you the home delivery according to your choice. Know that you have the option of either: picking up the products and installing them yourself, or choosing the option of delivery and doing the installation yourself or finally choosing the option of delivery and installation by the expert team.
- Structural installation
If you have chosen the option of installing the cabinets, the team in charge will differ depending on the suppliers you have worked with. For example, our customers who buy pre-fabricated cabinets such as the Oasis range from Napoleon often decide to install everything themselves. If you have custom cabinets created by Cuinox , they will be in charge of delivery and installation. This is also included in their initial price.
These installation fees include travel, installer time, visits and mileage. Typically 4 visits are included in the installation price. Often these 4 visits are for:
- Visualization of space
- Installation of cabinets
- Counter installation (supervision)
- Installation / Assembly of barbecues
Once the kitchen is fully assembled, you can bring in professionals to make the necessary connections, including plumbers and electricians as well as counter managers. Note that some of them will come before the cabinets are installed to make their work easier.
- Assembling the barbecues
Since professionals cannot properly work around barbecues that are already assembled, this often requires us to return after their visit to install and assemble the barbecues, cooking grids, etc. Please remember that this second visit is included in the installation fees listed above.
- Gas connection
The connection of gas barbecue appliances can only be done by a certified plumber. Be careful, if you try to make this connection yourself, you may not be eligible for insurance in the event of an incident. Be careful.
So now you know what to expect when building your outdoor kitchen project.
