A new sweet BBQ sauce from Quebec

Une nouvelle sauce sucrée BBQ Québec

Warning, warning. If you like apples, you may very well freak out over what I'm about to tell you. 👀

Always looking for new flavor combinations, my brain is constantly in “analysis” mode. I think, watch, cook and taste different recipes for inspiration. And recently, I had an idea!

You know, with pork, little pieces of apple are always good. In Quebec, apples are pretty big too; I don't have the numbers, but I know that there are an astronomical number of families and couples who go "to the apples" every year. So creating an apple sauce made sense to me.

So I present to you my latest, the Quebec BBQ Sweet Apple Sauce ! It's delicious and I'm pretty proud of it. 👌

Why did you create apple sauce?

There are several things that made me want to concoct Pomme Sucrée.

First, I mentioned this a little earlier, but with pork, apples are completely sick. Even in BBQ competitions, it "scores" big with the judges. Everyone loves apples.

Thinking about this inspired me to work on a new sauce recipe. An apple sauce. But… the real taste of apple, aside from its sweetness, is quite subtle, so producing an apple sauce required a lot of work and research.

As I thought about it a little further, I realized that apples and pork are often paired with other sweet ingredients. Maple syrup, for example, is another must-have with these ingredients (you only have to think of the famous maple bacon slices to know that it's a combination that tastes like heaven! 🤤). So developing a sweet apple sauce was a "challenge", but I was ready to take it on. I just had to enhance its sweet taste. (At the same time, let's be honest, maple syrup has always been a big trend in Quebec, so it's clear that adding it to my recipe just made it better. 😜)

Speaking of sweet, I also wanted to add a “massively sweet” sauce to expand our collection of sweet sauces. We have a lot of “spicy” Quebec BBQ sauces; a little spicy, but we don’t have that many sweet ones, like Douce Nuit Mamacita . My idea of apple sauce was then becoming more and more interesting.

So, with that in mind, I decided to create Pomme Sucrée. I thought I would try to capture the delicious taste of an apple covered in caramel (or maple syrup 😏) in a bottle, for everyone's enjoyment. And... I succeeded! 🤘

What does Sweet Apple taste like?

In a nutshell, it tastes like New York; it tastes like "the big apple". 😜 It has a pronounced taste of apples, but mixed with a slight note of rum, a little "kick" of maple syrup and a delicious blend of spices. It really has a nice balance of flavors.

If I had to describe it to you differently, imagine yourself eating a good slice of apple pie. The taste is quite similar to that. It's a sweet, fruity sauce that leaves a refreshing effect on the palate, all without even having to serve it with ice cream. 😎

The perfect weddings

To really enjoy this sauce, I recommend pairing it with pork (it's really solid with ribs and pork chops), chicken (any part!), or tofu (yes, yes!). If you're feeling more adventurous, it's also great on melted brie or in a burger. 💯

How to use it

I mainly designed this sauce to be glazed on meats at the end of cooking (I would even say glazed a maximum of 5 minutes before the end of cooking since it is not very liquid) or served as a cold or hot dip. Besides, if you use it to brush your food, they will seriously have an incredible caramelization, so let loose! 🤩

It is quite versatile; I would even say that it is “a sauce for all sauces”. 😜

Its particularities

As you might expect, this is a very mild and sweet sauce, which tastes like apples (I didn't call it that for nothing! 🤪). Anyone with a slightly sweet tooth will love it. It is creamy and adheres well to food. When you taste it, you will feel like you are walking through an orchard. 🍎

Does this speak to you?

To make your own mind up, there's nothing better than tasting it for yourself! So I invite you to come and get one, or two, or three bottles (or even more! 😍) in one of our stores or on our website.

I look forward to hearing your feedback!

Good discovery and… good BBQ! 🔥
