If you clicked on this article, it's probably because you like pizza (I understand you!), but also, surely, because you are curious to know how to make good pizzas on the BBQ and/or because you are hesitating between several devices/accessories to cook them.
Let's be honest, at BBQ Québec, we have a couple of accessories for making pizza, so I can understand that you are looking to invest in the appliance/accessory that suits you best.
To help you make your choice, here is what I can tell you:
Our best products
First, we have 3 products that are truly the “best of the best” for making great pizzas: the Capt'n Cook from OvenPlus , the BBQ Accessory Pizza Box BBQ Québec , and the All-in-1 (available in 22” and 26” formats).
Each of them has its own characteristics, but I assure you that no matter which one tempts you the most, you will not be disappointed!
- Capt'n Cook
The first thing to mention about this appliance is that it is a separate grill. If you don't have a BBQ, this one is very practical, because it is all you need; as much for making pizza as for any other type of cooking. I would even go so far as to say that it is as much the best portable BBQ (because, yes, it is portable too!) as a table BBQ for making pizza, any gratin, paella, burgers, steaks... anything, it is so great! (Actually, it was created to make pizza and steaks for me, but once you master it you can do anything with it.)
Otherwise, if, on the contrary, you already have a BBQ, well, it's not lost either, because the Capt'n Cook can serve as an infrared burner thanks to its salamander-type burner. With its tray, you can also cook things that you don't usually prepare on the grill. It's like... a good "side grill".
Other cool things about this device are that you can use it to smoke food; you just have to put pieces of wood ("chunks") on the bottom grill, that it allows you to brown cheese IN A FEW SECONDS (it's really the best for that! 👌), and of course it's portable. So you can take it wherever you want to cook delicious pizzas. 😉
- The BBQ Pizza Box Accessory
This accessory works on all types of BBQs: pellet, charcoal, and gas BBQs. Those who have a gas grill will especially love it because it's really the best way to cook a pizza on a gas BBQ . And not only that! The Pizza Box (its little name 😉) is great for browning any food and transforming your BBQ into an "oven".
The appeal of the Pizza Box lies in its speed of execution, its consistent results, and… its affordable price. 😎 Once you know how to use it, it’s clear that you can’t “screw up” your recipe the next time. With it, one thing is for sure, your pizza crust (and the entire pizza) will be perfect, EVERY TIME. 🙌 (I swear, the results are truly impressive!)
Oh! It can go in an oven too, so if you don't have a BBQ at all or don't feel like doing one on cold winter days, this is a really great appliance. It's also very affordable. 👌
- The All-in-1
We've been talking about it for a long time, the All-in-1 is the most revolutionary BBQ accessory that has been invented ! It allows you to transform your regular charcoal BBQ into anything! Yes, yes, you can use your BBQ as a rotisserie, pizza oven or smoker by putting an All-in-1 on it! (Honestly, between you and me, you don't need to buy 56 types of BBQ when you have this. For a really reasonable price, you have access to a multitude of types of cooking, which usually require the purchase of several accessories for a few hundred dollars! [It's even so hot that you can use it without even having a BBQ; you can make a fire directly underneath and use it to grill your food above!])
Personally, I like this accessory, because when Pierre-Luc and I designed it, well… we made it for people who are, like us. It’s a tool FOR “BBQERS”, MADE BY “BBQERS”.
With an All-in-1, you will have the same experience as with a $2000 pizza oven, but for less money and for less waiting time (this accessory is made of "stainless", so when it is on your BBQ, the heat hits the material and is reflected, without being stored). I tell you, if you are a fan of Italian pizza, you will trip, because you will find the "real authentic taste" of a wood-fired pizza with this. Really, there is nothing that can match the All-in-1 at this level, because the food is heated/cooked with real wood charcoal.
Who's going to be tripping on these products?
If you're wondering whether these devices/accessories are for you or your pizza-loving boyfriend, I'd say...
- The Capt'n Cook is ideal for someone who loves gadgets and wants a portable and versatile BBQ.
- The BBQ Pizza Box accessory is perfect for someone who doesn't want to rack their brains, who loves making their pizza on their Weber or Napoleon BBQ, and who wants a perfect pizza (because yes, the results are consistent).
- The All-in-1 is a wonderful accessory for those who love making "real" pizzas; pizzas that look like they came out of a restaurant pizza oven, and using their BBQ to do it all.
What accessories are these products compatible with?
Earlier I mentioned wood chips/chunks, but that doesn't count here, because I'm talking about accessories. The Capt'n Cook, the BBQ Pizza Box Accessory and the All-in-1 are all surprising, in the sense that you can do a lot of things with each of them.
The Capt'n Cook, for example, can heat a Himalayan pink salt board on its top plate, or can be partially disassembled to accommodate a griddle. What I mean by that is that you can unscrew the lid on the top and place a griddle on top of the appliance to make good smash burgers, let's say. 😜
In the case of the Pizza Box, unfortunately there are no accessories that come to mind that could "fit" in it... BUT! You can very well cook potatoes in it, stuff them, then open them and put them back in to brown them; there is enough room for large vegetables to fit in. 😉
Finally, when it comes to the All-in-1, you can put pretty much anything in it… a rotisserie system, hang hooks on a rotisserie rod to hang food, a vegetable rack… you can even put 2 All-in-1s on top of each other to create an even taller smoker.
How to clean each product?
The last thing that might help you make your choice is to know how well each of these 3 items washes. Of course, I will always recommend that you read the instructions to really have more details, but if I give you the broad outline, it looks like this:
To clean a Capt'n Cook, first, heat it up properly. Then, using a brush, scrape the bottom grill to remove any residue, and clean the bottom (you'll see, it's super easy). As for the outside, wash it with hot water and soap. You can also remove the pizza stone to scrub it from time to time.
As for the BBQ Pizza Box Accessory, you can easily remove and clean the porcelain enamel coated ceramic stone, then, if necessary, wash the "stainless" with soap and water.
And finally, in the case of the All-in-1, since it is all stainless steel, you just have to heat it to the maximum. 😉
There you go. I hope I've cleared your mind, but like I said above, all of these products are great. Someone who's really into pizza will even have one of each and use them whenever they want. 👌
Happy BBQ to all!
