Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Flank Steak and Dragon Sauce

A big fan of grilled cheese, I tried to reinvent the traditional recipe by making it a little fancier and cooking it all on the BBQ (because yes, anything that can be cooked in the oven can be cooked on the BBQ, and what's more, cooking on the grill adds a delicious little fiery taste to all foods).

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this recipe, and since I made it, he keeps asking me when I'll make it again... I might as well say right away that it was a success!

Without further ado, here's how to prepare my recipe:

Ingredients :

  • 300 g of beef flank steak

  • Texas Spices to taste

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 1 yellow onion, chopped

  • 4 slices of Oka cheese or another cheese of your choice

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise

  • 3 tbsp Dragon sauce

  • 1 cup baby arugula

Preparation :

  1. Preheat BBQ to 600°F.

  2. Season the flank steak with Texas seasoning and grill on both sides until the internal temperature reaches 140°F for medium-rare. Let rest, then thinly slice. Set aside.

  3. Butter the four slices of bread and cook them buttered side down on the BBQ for about 2-3 minutes.

  4. Meanwhile, melt the remaining butter in a skillet and add the chopped onion. Cook until golden, then set aside.

  5. Spread mayonnaise on two of the warm bread slices, then Dragon sauce on the other two. Place the bavette slices, roasted onions and cheese on the buns with mayonnaise. Close the sandwich and grill until the cheese melts.

  6. Garnish the sandwich with baby arugula and enjoy!

Very good on its own, this sandwich is even better when accompanied by a good German beer and julienned fries, all in front of a good TV series!

Bon appetit and good BBQ!
