Recipes to make in large quantities and to offer
But why not make a double recipe?
The other day, I made a mega big spaghetti sauce in my giant grandmother's pot. I made sauce like I was going to feed a spaghetti dinner to fund a hockey team. You get the idea. Why did I do it? Because I wanted to please my grandparents who have been home since March, and my mother-in-law was also there who had just had ankle surgery...
I made this spaghetti sauce with the help of my 3 children. The carrots were cut crooked and there were lots of sauce drops everywhere but this sauce was special. It was a little bit of our love that we wanted to pass on to our loved ones in need. So we put our love in Mason jars and gave them away! (I still kept a few jars for my little family).
And then, with the holiday season approaching and another lockdown, we're going to have some time... Why not use this time to cook? Slow cook, in large quantities, stock up on delicious little dishes and take the opportunity to give them to the people you love, like your friend Sophie who just had a little baby or your brother who tends to eat frozen pizzas. Plus, by doing this, you're telling them that they're important to you.
So, here are some suggestions for meals to cook outside on your BBQ while the kids play outside or you have a beer on your balcony.
- The eternal pork shoulder: sweet, BBQ, in sauce with tomatoes and herbs, with beer… If we want our shoulder in sauce, we cook it in the Presto BBQ or directly in a cast iron casserole. With our meat we can make tacos, a sweet potato hash…
- The blade roast!!! My grandmother made hers with onion soup packets and red wine like Janette Bertrand yum! Or with Montreal spices from BBQ Quebec moistened with a good brown beer and a few onions, wow again! We eat our shredded meat with mashed potatoes (the classic), in tacos, or in a cheese sandwich.
- Hot smoked salmon with California or dawn spices to make salmon pâtés or rillettes.
- Smoked turkey drumsticks to make vol-au-vent sauce or a great chili.
Be creative and make things that would make you happy if you received them!
Happy BBQ and happy holidays ;)
