Summer is the big season for camping. And… camping necessarily means BBQ. 😜
Whether you're used to doing it while camping or not, it's definitely a good idea. To prove it to you, I thought I'd give you all the reasons why combining BBQ and camping makes for an incredible experience.
Why is this a good idea?
First, because it allows us to enjoy the outdoors. We go camping to be in nature, so we might as well make the most of it. By cooking outside, we also don't get our trailer/tent dirty or warm.
Also, let's be honest, food cooked on the BBQ is always better. It makes the cooking aspect more social too. Some people can take care of searing the meats, while another prepares the accompaniments, for example.
How is a BBQ better than a fire pit?
Using a BBQ is literally “playing with fire.” So why wouldn’t it be better to play directly in the fire, without working with a machine? It’s true that cooking food over a fire always gives an authentic taste, but using a BBQ is really more about control. The fire itself and the cooking become easier to control and, of course, it’s also safer to work in a BBQ than in a fire.
“Must have” products for camping
I won't surprise anyone by saying that a BBQ is a "must". Just make sure that the type of BBQ you have is accepted at the campsite you are going to and there will be no problem. Personally, I really recommend the Weber Go-Anywhere portable BBQ . It is very practical and even fits in a "pack bag". For traveling light, it is perfect.
A small chimney starter is another item to have with you if you want to easily start fires without wasting energy.
Other than that, in terms of seasonings, nothing beats the BBQ Quebec Texas and Argentina dry rubs for me. Both are sure shots for absolutely everything. Honestly, you could even put some on a rock and it would taste great! 😜 (Just kidding, don't do that!)
Otherwise, you definitely need some utensils. And if you have room for cooking accessories, a fish basket or all-purpose grill basket is a great idea (especially if you're fishing while you're there). The great thing about this is that it's not just for fish; you can put a lot of food in it. You can even place it directly over the fire and grill your food without a grill.
A Twist-O-Max is another fun accessory to have too. It's not too big, it makes different sausages and it allows you to be even more creative.
Essential recipes
Speaking of sausages, hot dogs are always good. Any other simple recipe will do the trick too, the important thing is not to rack your brains.
On this, I want to make a small clarification. Often, people will think of making papillotes, but as long as you put aluminum foil around your food, I would say to cook it directly in the embers or on the BBQ grill instead. You keep the peel on your fruits/vegetables and move them yourself so that they cook evenly. It will be better, it will be real BBQ and it will save you from using aluminum foil for nothing.
Products for hunters and fishermen
Of course, some people go camping to hunt and/or fish. If that's you, we also have a lot of stock that will allow you to enjoy your fresh meats.
In terms of seasonings, our range of dry marinades BBQ Québec X La ferme Monette (composed of L'Aube , 49th Parallel , Yukon and Western ) is an excellent choice. These are spice blends that were originally designed for wild meats, game and fish. You can't go wrong with that. Otherwise, on fish, the dry marinade Prêts pour l'Alaska BBQ Québec X Prêts pour la route is great.
Otherwise, I mentioned it above, but a fish basket is perfect for fishing enthusiasts. Steven Raichlen's Kebab Holder is also a great tool to enjoy your catch. You can set it on your BBQ grill or on a log placed directly in the fire pit and eat something phenomenal.
The final word
In closing, I say it again, but BBQ and camping go together. It's like... beef and fire; it's a winning combination. So I wish you lots of fun during your vacation and say "Have a good BBQ!" 😁
