I'm sure that like me, many of you have cupboards overflowing with spices and a fridge full of sauces! Personally, I love to vary and try different products (even if I always have my good old classics never far away). We are spoiled in Quebec, we have products made here by local companies that excel in the BBQ field. That's why today, I wanted to tell you about 3 products that are permanently in my fridge and that were designed by a reference in the field.
I will talk to you, of course, about SJB products, made by Simon de l'Est. Including a range of sauces and spices, SJB products are known by all BBQ and smoking enthusiasts. I will talk to you specifically about my TOP 3 SJB: theSpicy and Sweet sauce , the South Carolina Style sauce , and one of the most recent, the North Carolina Style sauce .
You don't know SJB? Stop reading this article immediately and head to one of our stores to get one (or more) of their products, it's urgent! For those who continue reading, here is a short description of the 3 products mentioned above:
SJB Hot and Sweet Sauce
Personally, if someone asks me what a "classic" BBQ sauce should taste like, I hand over this bottle.
If I had to invent a BBQ sauce, this would be what I would invent (too bad, Simon beat me to it by several years): a thick, "spicy" sauce (as the name suggests) with a smoky flavor. You can't go wrong.
Plus, it contains whiskey… how can you not love it!! It is, in my opinion, a “go to” sauce with almost anything; it is as delicious as an accompaniment as it is as a sauce to brush on the pieces of meat that you cook with love on the grill.
Really safe bet, please find me someone who doesn't like it!
SJB South Carolina Style Sauce
OK, here we are somewhere else, completely somewhere else. Why do I love this sauce? Because of its unique side. Indeed, there are few sauces with this style based on mustard.
Whether you use it in your mac and cheese, your pulled pork, to brush your chicken wings (its little honey side is perfect on wings), or as a luxurious mustard to impress the gallery in your burgers and hot dogs, you are sure to make people happy with it.
For the more daring, I even suggest adding some at the very end of cooking on their ribs; you will then be entitled to ribs worthy of the "smokehouses" of the southern United States.
SJB North Carolina Style Sauce
I was telling you at the beginning about how lucky we are to have high-quality Quebec products, right? Well, this sauce is the result of a collaboration between Simon de L'est and the gang at THEO BBQ, another company in the industry that is increasingly standing out!
North Carolina Style Sauce is a much more "watery" product than the other sauces we're used to. It's a vinegary sauce with a little pepper kick that pairs perfectly with pulled pork and chicken, but personally, it's at its best when added to ribs when wrapping them in butcher paper to help them caramelize.
Which one to choose? Don't rack your brains and take all 3 on your next visit to one of our stores!!!
