It's January. The holidays are over and we've all overindulged a bit. Here's a garnish idea, to be eaten without moderation, or almost! From brunch to dessert, grilled figs are versatile. They can be used in savory or sweet recipes. Since it's my birthday, I'm serving it here on an angel food cake with lots of honey whipped cream. As a bonus, I'll give you several other ideas after the recipe!
Ingredients :
8 figs
¼ cup runny honey
½ tsp cinnamon (or more to taste)
2 tbsp cold butter
¼ cup pistachios (roasted, unsalted)
Accessory:
Preparation :
-
Preheat the BBQ to maximum.
-
Using a knife, cut a cross of about 2 centimeters in the top of each fig.
-
Place the figs on the vegetable rack.
-
Spread about half of the honey inside each fig, then a pinch of cinnamon and finish with a knob of butter. Reserve the rest of the honey.
-
Place the vegetable racks on a baking sheet. Then place the sheet in direct cooking mode for about 5-8 minutes, or until the figs are tender.
-
Remove the figs from the vegetable rack and cut them in half or in quarters.
-
Garnish the figs with the remaining honey and the pistachios.
Other recipe ideas:
As shown in the photos, this fig filling steals the show in simple cakes. For those who want to end the meal with a dessert that is not too sweet, this is the recipe for you. The filling is also delicious for breakfast on plain Greek yogurt or to enhance oatmeal or pancakes. Incredible with mascarpone cheese or on a runny brie warmed on the salt block. By replacing the cinnamon with a few sprigs of fresh rosemary, it will be perfect on a goat cheese crouton or ricotta with a few arugula leaves. The grilled fig filling is very good in a grilled salad with goat cheese and prosciutto. Finally, it will accompany your cheese platters wonderfully!
Enjoy your food!
